Draft Result Drafted in the 2009 Draft by the New York Giants in the 1st round with the #29 pick.
After failing to trade for Braylon Edwards the Giants fill their need for a playmaking wide receiver with Nicks. He is tough physical receiver with great hands and a nose for the end zone. Compares favorably to Anquan Boldin.

Strengths Has good combination of size and athleticism. While he will not wow you with his speed, he is a playmaker who can go up and get a ball in a crowd and uses his strength to his advantage. Displays good hands and catches the ball at its highest point. Makes the tough catches and is a good red zone target. His physical style sets him apart. Had a breakout game vs. West Virginia in the Meineke Car Care Bowl catching 8 passes for 217 yards and 3 TDs (most of it in the 1st half). Career leader at North Carolina in receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns.

Weaknesses He lacks the speed the NFL craves which could slow his steady climb up draft boards. Not esp. dangerous in the open field. His lack of speed makes you wonder whether he will be able to be the same type of deep threat he was in college. Will need to sharpen up his routes if he is to succeed in the NFL. Remember Anquan Boldin, Hines Ward, TJ Houshmandzadeh and many others have not possessed elite speed but each is a physical reciever who developed into elite players. None of those three were first rounders either. Nicks has a similar style but is will need to improve his route running if he wants to even approach the above mentioneds level of success.
