Draft Result Drafted in the 2010 Draft by the Arizona Cardinals in the 1st round with the #26 pick.
After getting little out of Gabe Watson and Alan Branch at nose tackle, the selection of Dan Williams was a no brainer for Arizona. Williams is a wide body in the middle who will command double teams and stuff the run. Upgrading at the nose tackle position will make life much easier for a new group of inside backers in the post-Karlos Dansby era. A throwback pick which should dramatically improve the Cardinals 17th ranked run defense.

Strengths
  • Two gap space eating tackle
  • Forces a double team on every play
  • Made major improvements as a football player with Ed Orgeron as position coach and Monte Kiffin as defensive coordinator
  • Anchors well against the run
  • Plays with a high motor
  • Solid tackler - had more solo tackles (36) than assisted tackles (34)
  • A safer nose tackle pick than Terrance Cody (but a little less upside)

Weaknesses
  • Strictly a two down DT - limited pass rusher - relies primarily on bull rush
  • Increased upper body strength would help Williams become more of a pocket collapsing tackle in passing situations
  • Only generated 2.5 sacks and 8 QB hurries in 2009
