Tremendous burst and acceleration off the line. Had 23.5 TFL and 7 sacks in 2009. Will combine with Gerald McCoy to form a formidable interior defensive line.

Strengths
  • Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year. Started as a true freshman in 2007
  • One of the quickest defensive linemen on the board. Shoots the gap with an explosion of speed and power
  • A true pocket collapser. Uses quickness to gain leverage against much larger guards in passing situations
  • Chases down plays from behind. Takes away cut back lanes
  • Superb athleticism. Moves around like a linebacker in the open field. Played fullback in goal-line situations
  • Penetrator who disrupts plays in the backfield - 23 TFL in 2009
  • Quick first step as a pass rusher - 7 sacks in 2009

Weaknesses
  • Overaggressive at times. Occasionally takes himself out of plays
  • Must be more disciplined in defending the screen
  • Lacks ideal height and bulk
  • Does not have the frame to get bigger
  • Struggles to defeat double teams
  • Not a fit for the 3-4
