Draft Result Drafted in the 2010 Draft by the Atlanta Falcons in the 1st round with the #19 pick.
With the top three defensive ends off the board the Falcons filled their need at outside linebacker with Sean Weatherspoon. He is a versatile playmaker who can play the strong or weakside. He will also upgrade the pass rush in Atlanta as he is an excellent blitzer who had 30 TFL and 9 sacks in his last two years at Missouri. Those numbers are even more impressive considering Weatherspoon did not play as a 3-4 OLB. Fills a big need and will start right away.

Strengths
  • One of the best pure tacklers in the draft. 386 total tackles the last three years.
  • Outstanding skills as a blitzer. 25 TFL the last two seasons. Times blitzes as well as any player in this class.
  • Size and skill set will open up several doors in different schemes. Could play either inside or outside in a 3-4. Best position is likely at 4-3 strongside linebacker.
  • Big hitter

Weaknesses
  • Pass coverage skills are a work in progress
  • Has a tendency to over pursue screens and draws
