Draft Result Drafted in the 2010 Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 5th round with the #3 pick.
Tremendous value pick for the Eagles. Ricky Sapp is tall, lean and athletic and provides value as a situational pass rusher or could move to SAM linebacker.

Strengths
  • One of the best pure athletes among the DE prospects in this year's draft
  • Great speed for a guy his size
  • Shows good balance and changes directions well
  • Chases down ball carriers in the open field
  • Good burst and acceleration - shoots gaps and makes plays in the backfield
  • Shows good anticipation
  • Solid tackler - 60 tackles as a senior
  • Active - plays the run and the pass
  • Long arms
  • Played some OLB in 2009 and looked comfortable playing in space and dropping into coverage

Weaknesses
  • Has the height to play DE but needs to add weight to play in a 4-3
  • Too easy to run at Sapp. Offensive tackles and tight ends with long arms have shown they can get into Sapp's body
  • Lacks upper body strength
  • Does not shed well and gets over powered by blockers too easily
  • His 5 sacks are rather pedestrian for a projected pass rusher
  • Tore his ACL in 2008
