NFL Draft 101 Staff Three Round 2010 Mock Draft - Post - Scouting Combine

03-08-2010

The Staff of NFLDraft101.com came together for a mock draft following the NFL Scouting Combine. Now that we've had a chance to see the players work out and get their measurements, its time to reevaluate the draft. No trades were allowed during the draft process.

Round 1

PickTeamPosPlayerSchool
1St. Louis RamsQBSam Bradford #Oklahoma
Ndamukong Suh is the higher rated player but the vibe from St. Louis is they want to get a franchise quarterback. Bradford has talent but the Rams will need to be patient with the former spread signal caller. The key to this pick will likely be Bradford's pro day performance. If healthy he goes #1 if not he falls. As an aside, one of the biggest surprises of the draft season is the lack of buzz surrounding Clausen esp. when compared to Bradford considering Clausen's pro style pedigree.
2Detroit LionsDTNdamukong Suh Nebraska
Buzz is building for the Lions to take left tackle Russell Okung (finally) but the one player who will change their mind is Suh. His ability to dominate on the defensive front would trump that option. If the Rams take Suh, Okung is the pick here.
3Tampa Bay BuccaneersDTGerald McCoy #Oklahoma
If McCoy or Suh is on the board this is one of the easiest picks in the draft to predict. McCoy's ability to disrupt plays in the backfield would fill the defenses top need.
4Washington RedskinsQBJimmy Clausen #Notre Dame
Passing on a left tackle could prove costly later on but Mike Shanahan needs a quarterback to trigger his offense and Clausen's experience in a pro style offense should allow him to play right away and buy the new coaching staff a little time to reload. Clausen is surprisingly similar to former Shanahan pupil Jay Cutler.
5Kansas City ChiefsSEric Berry #Tennessee
Left tackle Russell Okung is tempting but Eric Berry would not only upgrade the backend of the Chiefs defense but would provide them with a playmaker in the mold of Ed Reed. Berry is rumored to be Pioli's top draft target.
6Seattle SeahawksOTRussell Okung Oklahoma St.
The Seahawks would be very pleased if Okung makes it past the left tackle need gauntlet of Detroit, Washington and Kansas City. Okung is the top left tackle in the draft and would fill the team's top need. A quarterback is a possibility if one of the top two drops here.
7Cleveland BrownsWRDez Bryant #Oklahoma St.
Being an offensive guy, Mike Holmgren will look to improve his offensive weaponry and give whomever the quarterback is a fighting chance. Bryant is the top reciever in the draft and has the playmaking ability the Browns need in the passing game.
8Oakland RaidersOTBruce Campbell #Maryland
The Raiders need a left tackle and Campbell's tremendous display of athleticism at the combine likely put him right in the middle of Al Davis' radar. Call it best athlete at a position of need.
9Buffalo BillsOTBryan Bulaga #Iowa
With the quarterbacks off the board, the Bills are free to turn their attention back to their top need: protecting the quarterback with Bulaga.
10Jacksonville JaguarsSEarl Thomas #Texas
After signing Aaron Kampman to improve the pass rush, the defensive focus shifts to improving the coverage with Thomas. His range and excellent coverage awareness will prove valuable in a division in which they play Indianapolis and Houston twice a year.
11Denver BroncosILBRolando McClain #Alabama
With WR Dez Bryant off the board, the Broncos look to get the quarterback for their defensive with McClain whose skills are an ideal fit for the 3-4.
12Miami DolphinsDTDan Williams Tennessee
The Dolphins could very easily use this pick on a rush linebacker but Jason Ferguson's departure creates a need at a much thinner position: Nose tackle. Williams strength, motor and willingness to do the dirty work makes him a natural fit for the toughest spot to fill on a 3-4 defense.
13San Francisco 49ersCBJoe Haden #Florida
Joe Haden's slow 40 time causes him to slide to the 49ers and into a good situation on a defense that focuses on instincts and awareness as much as sheer athleticism. His physical style is sure to endear him to Coach Singletary.
14Seattle SeahawksRBC.J. Spiller Clemson
Spiller is the type of dynamic playmaker the Seahawks need to re-ignite their stagnant offense. His ability as a rusher and receiver would make him an excellent fit for Jeremy Bates offense and take pressure off an aging Matt Hasselbeck.
15New York GiantsDTBrian Price #UCLA
Price is a good combination of power and athleticism with a knack for disrupting plays in the backfield. A good scheme fit.
16Tennessee Titans34LB/DEJason Pierre-Paul #South Fla.
Pierre-Paul has "Freak"-ish ability and would fill the team's need for a pass rusher. His stock is currently soaring but he is more about potential than production which could allow him to slide into a good situation in Tennessee.
17San Francisco 49ersOTTrent Williams Oklahoma
Williams is an ideal fit for a team needing a right tackle that is as long as the team fights the urge to move him to the left side.
18Pittsburgh SteelersOTAnthony Davis #Rutgers
With S Earl Thomas and NT Dan Williams off the board the decision comes down to Terrence Cody and Anthony Davis. Ultimately, finding a left tackle is the team's biggest need and if they do not fill it here it is doubtful they will find someone who is able to contribute right away. Roethlisberger can only take so many hits before he is out for an extended period.
19Atlanta FalconsDEDerrick Morgan #Georgia Tech
Morgan's slide is one of the biggest surprises of the mock but it doubtful the defensive end needy Falcons would allow him to slip by. His high motor along with the ability to stop the run and rush the passer would allow him to contribute right away. Safest defensive end in the draft.
20Houston TexansCBKyle Wilson Boise St.
Wilson would be a little bit of a reach but he is a natural cover corner who would fill the hole left by Dunta Robinson's departure.
21Cincinnati BengalsWRGolden Tate #Notre Dame
Even if the Bengals nab an aging wide receiver in free agency they still need to find a young wideout with upside and playmaking ability. Tate's ability to play in the slot, in the backfield and help in the return game boosts his stock.
22New England PatriotsOLB/34LBSergio Kindle Texas
The Patriots have more needs than you would expect as their veteran core begins to age but no need is more pressing than improving the pass rush. Kindle is considered by many to be the top rush linebacker in the draft.
23Green Bay PackersOTCharles Brown Southern California
Brown has flown under the radar this draft season but he is also the last of the top blindside protectors on the board and would fill a major need on the Packers O-line. The re-signing of Chad Clifton would enable Brown to develop rather than be thrown to the fire before he is ready.
24Philadelphia EaglesOLBSean Weatherspoon Missouri
After playing musical chairs at linebacker in 2009, the Eagles would benefit from the addition of Weatherspoon one of the most talented and most versatile linebackers in this year' draft.
25Baltimore RavensTEJermaine Gresham Oklahoma
After acquiring Anquan Boldin and Donte Stallworth to upgrade the recieving corp the Ravens would add some youth with Gresham the top receiving tight end on the board.
26Arizona Cardinals34LB/DEBrandon Graham Michigan
Graham has a tremendous motor reminiscent of the Steelers Lamaar Woodley and would provide the Cardinals with the pass rusher they need to disrupt opposing passing games.
27Dallas CowboysSTaylor Mays Southern California
Jerry Jones is intriqued by Mays' rare combination of size, speed and athleticism. He has coverage deficiencies but the Cowboys disquised Roy Williams for years and would like to add a playmaker in the secondary.
28San Diego ChargersRBRyan Mathews #Fresno St.
Matthews is the best every down back in the draft and would fill the void left by the departure of LaDanian Tomlinson. His ability to run inside and wear down defenses would be a nice complement to Darren Sproles as well.
29New York JetsDTTerrence Cody #Alabama
The Jets will consider wide receivers and rush linebackers but Cody is an intriquing nose tackle prospect whom the Jets can groom for a year behind Kris Jenkins. A run stuffer in the truest form, he just needs to be sure he does not eat himself out of the league.
30Minnesota VikingsDTJared Odrick Penn St.
Pat Williams is not getting any younger and while Odrick plays a different style his high motor and quickness will make him a valued member of the defensive tackle rotation.
31Indianapolis ColtsGMike Iupati Idaho
Iupati is not the left tackle the Colts need but he would be able to come in an immediately start at left guard and in time could develop into the blind side protector.
32New Orleans SaintsDECarlos Dunlap #Florida
A best player available selection who would add youth along the defensive front and would be put in a situation where he can succeed early under Gregg Williams.
