Dan Wernery Three Round 2010 Mock Draft - What if Bradford is not selected #1 overall?
03-15-2010
Recently most mock drafts including our staff draft has Sam Bradford going to St Louis at #1 overall. What if this is just a smokescreen by St Louis? How does this affect Sam Bradford?
Round 1
| Pick | Team | Pos | Player | School |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | St. Louis Rams | DT | Ndamukong Suh | Nebraska |
| Steve Spagnuolo built the Giants into Super Bowl champs with a dominant defensive line. Suh's talent could elevate guys like Chris Long, Adam Carriker and Clifton Ryan. | ||||
| 2 | Detroit Lions | OT | Russell Okung | Oklahoma St. |
| With the acquisition of Corey Williams, I expect Gerald McCoy to be off the board for Detroit. McCoy and Williams are identical players. Okung would immediately upgrade this Lions offense filled with talented young skill players. | ||||
| 3 | Tampa Bay Buccaneers | DT | Gerald McCoy # | Oklahoma |
| The Bucs rush defense ranked last in the NFL in 2009. McCoy is not a dominant run stuffing tackle, but he is an immediate starter for a talent deprived Tampa defensive front. | ||||
| 4 | Washington Redskins | OT | Bryan Bulaga # | Iowa |
| The Redskins would love to draft a quarterback here, but they have the worst offensive tackle situation in the league currently. In our staff mock draft a week ago we have them take a quarterback. It was clear the Redskins would not be able to find a quality offensive tackle in round 2. | ||||
| 5 | Kansas City Chiefs | S | Eric Berry # | Tennessee |
| The Chargers are the dominant team in the AFC West, and are now more pass happy than ever. Eric Berry is the safest pick on the board and has Ed Reed type potential. | ||||
| 6 | Seattle Seahawks | OT | Anthony Davis # | Rutgers |
| The run of offensive tackles continues with this pick. Seattle's offense has declined rapidly the last two years without a healthy Walter Jones. Seattle cannot gamble that a quality offensive tackle will be there when they pick again at #14 overall. | ||||
| 7 | Cleveland Browns | QB | Jimmy Clausen # | Notre Dame |
| Here is the first shocker of my mock draft. Mike Holmgren is not a patient man and would prefer a quarterback who played in a pro style offense. The signing of Jake Delhomme is a temporary fix, but not a long term answer. | ||||
| 8 | Oakland Raiders | OT | Bruce Campbell # | Maryland |
| Offensive tackle is a huge need for the Raiders and after Campbell's workout at the combine this appears to be a likely destination. Without proper coaching, a raw talent like Campbell could be a bust. | ||||
| 9 | Buffalo Bills | QB | Sam Bradford # | Oklahoma |
| With the number of teams in round 1 overall looking for offensive tackles, don't surprised if Bradford falls this far if St Louis goes for a defensive tackle. The Bills need an offensive tackle, but with an increasingly apathetic fan base the Buffalo organization will have a hard time passing on Sam Bradford. | ||||
| 10 | Jacksonville Jaguars | WR | Dez Bryant # | Oklahoma St. |
| After signing Aaron Kampman, the Jags will focus on the offensive side. Before dismissing David Garrard as a quarterback, this team needs to give him a playmaker at wide receiver. | ||||
| 11 | Denver Broncos | DT | Dan Williams | Tennessee |
| The Broncos are not happy Dez Bryant is off the board. The Broncos lack a true 3-4 NT. Williams is quick enough to consistently force a double team on every play. | ||||
| 12 | Miami Dolphins | OLB/34LB | Sergio Kindle | Texas |
| After signing Karlos Dansby, the Dolphins add more talent to their linebacking corps. Kindle has experience at both linebacker and defensive end in college. | ||||
| 13 | San Francisco 49ers | OT | Trent Williams | Oklahoma |
| With the top four offensive tackles already off the board, expect the Niners to get their tackle with this pick. Williams immediately fills a major need at right tackle for the Niners. | ||||
| 14 | Seattle Seahawks | RB | C.J. Spiller | Clemson |
| Peter Carroll believes in running the football, and the Seahawks are still trying to replace Shaun Alexander. Spiller is the most versatile back on the board. | ||||
| 15 | New York Giants | ILB | Rolando McClain # | Alabama |
| With the departure of Antonio Pierce, the Giants have a huge hole at middle linebacker. McClain has the all of the tools to be a dominant middle linebacker from day one. | ||||
| 16 | Tennessee Titans | 34LB/DE | Jason Pierre-Paul # | South Fla. |
| Tennessee struggled mightily with their pass defense in 2009. Most of problems were due to a mediocre pass rush. Pierre-Paul is a project, but a coach like Jeff Fisher can get the most out of him. | ||||
| 17 | San Francisco 49ers | CB | Joe Haden # | Florida |
| The Niners have holes at both corner and safety. Haden's draft stock will fall due to a 4.6 40 at the combine (see Malcolm Jenkins last year). | ||||
| 18 | Pittsburgh Steelers | S | Earl Thomas # | Texas |
| With the departure of Ryan Clark, this is a dream scenario for the Steelers. Thomas is the best coverage safety by far in this draft. | ||||
| 19 | Atlanta Falcons | DE | Derrick Morgan # | Georgia Tech |
| Morgan is a polished pass rusher who will help out an anemic pass rush in Atlanta. Jamaal Anderson has been a huge bust. | ||||
| 20 | Houston Texans | DT | Jared Odrick | Penn St. |
| The Texans added Brian Cushing and Connor Barwin to help their edge rush in 2009. Odrick is big enough to push the pocket and also be a stout run defender. | ||||
| 21 | Cincinnati Bengals | TE | Jermaine Gresham | Oklahoma |
| The Bengals have talked about upgrading their tight end position for years. The key for this run first offense is how they plan on using the tight end. | ||||
| 22 | New England Patriots | 34LB/DE | Brandon Graham | Michigan |
| The Patriots do not get enough of a consistent pass rush from their outside linebackers. Graham has a similar game to another form Wolverine Lamaar Woodley. | ||||
| 23 | Green Bay Packers | OT | Charles Brown | USC |
| Offensive tackle was a huge problem in 2009. Brown is projected as a second rounder right now, but remember how Sam Baker and Duane Brown were elevated into first rounders in 2008. | ||||
| 24 | Philadelphia Eagles | DE | Carlos Dunlap # | Florida |
| Dunlap's character question marks will hurt him with most organizations. The Eagles have always looked the other way if the talent is good enough. Dunlap is a top 10 talent when he wants to be. | ||||
| 25 | Baltimore Ravens | CB | Kyle Wilson | Boise State |
| Baltimore lost a lot of close games in 2009, and their poor play at cornerback had a lot to do with it. Wilson has a high football IQ and is also solid in run defense. | ||||
| 26 | Arizona Cardinals | OLB | Sean Weatherspoon | Missouri |
| Weatherpoon is versatile enough to play either inside or outside. Weatherspoon is the best blitzing linebacker in the draft. | ||||
| 27 | Dallas Cowboys | S | Taylor Mays | Southern California |
| The Cowboys have had issues at safety for years. Mays reminds most of former Cowboy safety Roy Williams. | ||||
| 28 | San Diego Chargers | RB | Ryan Mathews # | Fresno St. |
| Its clear for San Diego to take the next step, they must be able to pickup tough yards. Mathews showed at the combine that he also has breakaway speed. | ||||
| 29 | New York Jets | DT | Terrence Cody # | Alabama |
| With the future of Kris Jenkins in question, the Jet will jump all of the opportunity to draft Terrence Cody. The talent as nose tackle drops off dramatically after Dan Williams and Terrence Cody. | ||||
| 30 | Minnesota Vikings | DT | Brian Price # | UCLA |
| The impeding retirement of Pat Williams will force the Vikings to think about finding a future replacement. Price is a different type of tackle, but he is a dominant pass rusher. | ||||
| 31 | Indianapolis Colts | DE/34LB | Jerry Hughes | TCU |
| The Colts have needs on the offensive line, but a talent like Hughes will he hard to pass on. In the Super Bowl, the Colts struggled to apply pressure on Drew Brees. | ||||
| 32 | New Orleans Saints | OLB | Navorro Bowman # | Penn State |
| With the departure of Scott Fujita the Saints now have an even bigger hole at outside linebacker. Bowman's off the field problems could be an issue in a city like New Orleans. | ||||
