| Quarterback | D | After Stafford and Sanchez the dropoff is tremendous. The lack of senior standouts results in one of the thinnest QB classes in years. |
| Running Backs | B+ | There may not be a sure-fire top 5 pick in the group but 5 underclassmen have a chance to be selected in round 1 and while the seniors lack a star they have a great deal of depth. There should be a mid-round (3-5) gem or two in this year's group. |
| Fullback | D | Not a strong class, it will be a surprise if a fullback is taken before round 5. There is not even a Jacob Hester or Brian Leonard RB/FB of note this year. |
| Wide Receiver | B | A much better class than a year ago when no WRs were taken in the first round. This year 3-5 receivers could go in the first stanza. Depth should not be a problem either. |
| Tight End | C+ | Brandon Pettigrew gives the class a first round prospect and the receiving tight ends are rather plentiful. It is not a good year for blocking tight ends however. |
| Offensive Tackle | A+ | It is hard to believe that the year after seven tackles were selected in the first round, an even better class is available this year. Last year it was deep. This year it is deep class with possibly seven 1st round prospect and unlike last year there are up to four players who could go in the top 10. |
| Guard | D | On the first day, just 1-2 guards could be selected and the depth is not there either. Much like last year, if you want a guard early, convert a tackle. |
| Center | A | 2009 welcomes the strongest and deepest center class in recent memory. 1-2 players could go in round one and as many as 5 could be selected on the first day. |
| Defensive Tackle | C- | After several of the top prospects returned for their senior year, we are left with BJ Raji and a big dropoff. Depth is ok but overall it is a weaker class than recent years. It could be a good year for 3-4 defensive ends though as many of the DTs are undersized. |
| Defensive End | B- | It is not a good year for 6-4 270 pound defensive ends but there are a number of undersized pass rushers who will get long looks during the scouting process. |
| 3-4 Linebacker | B+ | Thanks to the undersized defensive ends and several players out of true 3-4 systems, it is a banner year for outside pass rushers for the 3-4. |
| Outside Linebacker | C- | While it is a great year for 3-4 outside pass rushers, it is not a good year for weakside linebackers. |
| Inside Linebacker | B | Strong at the top with Laurinaitis and Maualuga, and deep as well. |
| Cornerback | B- | A strong first and second round group but the depth falls off fast after the top 8-10 prospects. |
| Safety | B- | There may or may not a first rounder but it is a talented and deep safety class this year. |
