Draft Result

Drafted in the 2011 Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 1st round with the #23 pick.
The Eagles had a number of issues on the offensive line this past season, and Watkins should look to solidify a spot inside at guard. A big guy that plays with a nasty demeanor, his athleticism will make him a great fit up front in Philadelphia helping keep Michael Vick off his back. An Andy Reid pick if there ever was one.

Strengths

  • One of the most underrated linemen in the draft
  • Took quickly to moving to guard at the Senior Bowl - a natural inside
  • Plays with good leverage - good knee bend
  • Strong lower body allows him to anchor in pass protection
  • Good footwork allows him to stay in front of his man and make blocks in space
  • Displays a strong motor which shows in his ability to sustain blocks
  • Hard worker and quick study - has improved from a raw physical talent to a well rounded blocker in just 4 years
  • Natural athleticism - former tight end with a lot of upside as a blocker
  • Great story - former hockey player and firefighter
  

Weaknesses

  • Overaged - 26 years old - stock may drop as team's will be less willing to develop a player who should be entering his prime
  • Needs to learn to use his hands better
  • Lacks the height and length to play tackle at the next level
  • Still learning the game - only 4 years of football experience - former hockey player and firefighter
