Drafted in the 2011 Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2nd round with the #19 pick.
In 2010, the Bucs drafted two defensive tackles back to back with their first pair of selections, and this year followed suit with two of the top defensive ends in this draft. Bowers slid due to injury concerns, but when healthy he is a Top Ten prospect and could be one of the sleepers of this draft.

Strengths

  • Proto-typical 4-3 DE with size and athleticism
  • Most dominant DE in college football in 2010: 15 sacks, 25 TFL
  • Tremendous motor - remarkable consistency in 2010, had two or more TFL in 9 of 13 games in 2010
  • Two way player - strong versus run and pass
  • Overpowers blockers
  • Quick first step
  • Displays short area quickness and above average change of direction
  • Instinctive and tenacious
  • ACC Defensive Player of the Year in 2010
  • Finalist for Lombardi, Nagurski (winner) and Bednarik awards
  • 2.5 year starter
  • #1 rated recruit in the country by ESPN coming out of high school

Weaknesses

  • Lacks top end speed and burst
  • Concerns about his knee have hurt his stock
  • Seems nit-picky but he is more of a good not great athlete
  • Only 1 year of dominant play - just 4 career sacks prior to 2010
  • Limited pass rush repertoire - relies heavily on motor and bull rush
  • Was known primarily as a run stuffer prior to junior year
