Anthony Davis
NFL Draft Scouting Report

Offensive Tackle

Rutgers

College Position: Offensive Tackle
School: Rutgers
Grade: Junior
Height: 6-5
Weight: 325
Birthdate: 10-11-1989
Draft Projection: Mid First
Overall Rank: 20
NFL Draft Position (Rank): Offensive Tackle (3)

Draft Result

Drafted in the 2010 Draft by the San Francisco 49ers in Round 1 with the #11 pick.

Strengths

  • Prototype left tackle prospect.  Will battle Russell Okung to be the first tackle selected
  • Light on his feet. Should be a top performer during mirror drill at combine
  • Started at guard during freshman season. Versatility is always a huge factor when drafting an offensive lineman
  • Strong lower body. Has tree trunks for legs
  • Does a good job handling speed rushers
  • Takes good angles when blocking linebackers. The Big East is loaded with undersized linebackers who are exceptionally quick
  • Uses his hands well to get a strong initial hand punch

Weaknesses

  • The hand punch and explosion can also be a weakness if you don't finish a block. Davis must improve on finishing blocks
  • Weight and conditioning - demoted to second team in 2008 after reporting to summer camp overweight. 320lbs can be a lot of weight to carry for a 6'5" left tackle who is facing elite speed rushers in the NFL
  • Depends on size too often and gets lazy with technique
  • Not a dominant run blocker
