Draft Result

Drafted in the 2011 Draft by the Arizona Cardinals in the 4th round with the #6 pick.
A pass rusher with long arms, a quick first step and a burst to close in on opposing quarterbacks, Acho should be a good fit in the Arizona defense desperately looking for help off the edge. The former Longhorn is a high character guy with great leadership ability, and should be a locker room favorite from day one.

Strengths

  • Intelligent pass rusher, picks his spot of attacks
  • Shows flashes of elite quickness and suddeness
  • Above average straight line speed
  • Good young man, speaks well
  • Great stunt rusher, gets upfield. Able to get small through creases
  • Nose for finding the ball. Seems to always be on the bottom of the pile for fumble recoveries
  • Won the William V. Campbell Award in 2010. Given to college football's top scholar/athlete
  • Plays with a great low-center-of-gravity
  • Plays with classic leverage. Hand placement is solid, gets butt and knee-drive behind his hand placement. Allowing him to handle blockers
  • Experience playing with his hand down and standing up

Weaknesses

  • Sporadic first step. Someplays you see Orakpo 2.0, others you see a completely different player
  • Not great hips, isn't fluid in lateral movement. Has trouble flipping them to contain outside plays/misdirection
  • Needs alittle coaching on turning the corner as a pass rusher, rounds things off way to wide. Waste of time/motion
  • Failed to impress as a run defender. No "pop" in the hips on contact. Maybe alittle high in his approach to ball carriers
  • Would love to see him be more active in his hand movements. Great placement, poor usage
  • Looked slightly like more of an explosive athlete in '09
