Draft Result

Drafted in the 2010 Draft by the Houston Texans in the 1st round with the #20 pick.
Kareem Jackson was one of the fastest rising players in the draft. He is a physical, instinctive corner who can play man or zone and fills the Texans need at cornerback after the departure of Dunta Robinson. He will be expected to start from day one. Jackson was likely drafted ahead of Kyle Wilson due to the NFL style defensive scheme he played in at Alabama and his ability to support the run.

Strengths

  • Good combination of size and athleticism
  • Comfortable in man or zone coverage
  • Above average coverage awareness
  • Displays good instincts
  • Has good feet and is fluid in his backpedal
  • Willing tackler who supports the run
  • Gets his hands on a lot of passes
  • Had an excellent combine workout in which he answered questions about his speed and ability to turn and run with receivers.  (4.41 40)
  • Three year starter

Weaknesses

  • Tends to gamble a little too much and is vulnerable to double moves and play fakes
  • Change of direction is merely average
  • Does not make a lot of big plays - just 2 interceptions the past two seasons
  • Needs to wrap up better
