Draft Result

Drafted in the 2011 Draft by the New Orleans Saints in the 1st round with the #24 pick.
The slide of Cameron Jordan was one of the biggest surprises of the first round, and he finds a great home in New Orleans. The Saints desperately needed help up front, and Jordan gives them a versatile, explosive strong-side end to play opposite Will Smith. He fits in well and should start right away and be productive.

Strengths

  • Few prospects have improved their stock in 2010 as much as Cameron Jordan
  • A two-way defensive end - excels against the run and is an underrated pass rusher
  • A better pass rusher than the stats indicate (13.5 sacks past 2 years)
  • Has the size and skill set to play five technique or left end
  • Strong at the point of attack - explosive off the snap and gets good push
  • Great tackler
  • Sheds blocks well - sudden hands
  • Non-stop motor - relentless defender
  • Makes plays down the line and gives good pursuit
  • Fundamentally sound
  • Has experience in the 3-4
  • Experienced - 2.5 year starter
  • The most dominant performer at the 2011 Senior Bowl practices
  • Good pedigree - Son of former Viking TE Steve Jordan
  • Excellent intangibles, media savvy and work ethic
  • One of the safest picks in the 2011 NFL Draft

Weaknesses

  • Lacks elite speed (more quick than fast)
  • Average lateral agility and change of direction
  • A lunchpail type who is not likely to wow at the combine
  • Not likely to develop into a dominant pass rusher
  • Plays upright at times
