Draft Result

Drafted in the 2010 Draft by the New York Giants in the 3rd round with the #12 pick.
Raw developmental safety with good combination of size and athleticism. Fluid in coverage for a 230 pounder and has playmaking ability. Early impact could be as a punt returner/special teamer.

Strengths

  • Rangy, playmaking safety
  • Rare combination of size and athleticism for a safety
  • Moves well in coverage for a big guy
  • Good acceleration, burst and change of direction
  • Shows good coverage instincts and awareness
  • Good all-around athlete - won national championship in football (2007) and baseball (2009 P/OF)
  • Played some corner early in his LSU career
  • Can play free or strong
  • Has return ability
  • High upside - just scratching the surface of his potential

Weaknesses

  • Not a great tackler - needs to wrap up better
  • Inexperienced - only 19 career starts
  • Does not play the ball exceptionally well
  • Lacks elite timed speed - more quick than fast
  • Oversized for a free safety type
  • Raw as a football player - still working on technique, reads, etc...
