NFL Draft Scouting Report

Defensive Tackle

Baylor

College Position: Defensive Tackle
School: Baylor
Grade: Senior
Height: 6-3
Weight: 351
Birthdate: 04-07-1988
Draft Projection: Second
Overall Rank: Unranked
NFL Draft Position (Rank): Defensive Tackle (6)

Draft Result

Drafted in the 2011 Draft by the Cleveland Browns in the 1st round with the #21 pick.
A huge body that most had pegged as a 3-4 nose guard, he will likely be playing in a 4-3 under Dick Jauron in Cleveland. A two-gapper who excels defending the run, look for Taylor to start immediately in a depleted front line for the Browns.

Strengths

  • Big-bodied nose tackle prospect who commands double teams
  • Anchors against the run
  • Ideal size for a nose - 350 pounds and carries the weight well
  • Good strength and power at the point of attack
  • Athletic - Moves well for his size but still plays best in a phone booth
  • Dominant performer in the trenches at the Senior Bowl

Weaknesses

  • Weight - always a concern for 350 pounders
  • Endurance - wears down at times
  • Minimal impact as a pass rusher
  • Slow off the ball
  • Limited lateral agility
  • Plays upright at times causing him to lose the leverage battle
  • Raw - Has upside as a developmental nose tackle but may not be ready to play right away.
  • Had some off-field issues at Penn State that resulted in him being dismissed from the team prior to transferring to Baylor
