Draft Result

Drafted in the 2011 Draft by the Chicago Bears in the 1st round with the #29 pick.
The Bears desperately need help up front on their offensive line, and they get one of the draft's best in Carimi. A mauler up front for Wisconsin for the past four seasons, Carimi should slide in at guard or right tackle for the Bears and make a difference. The Bears stuck to their guns and found a great fit, picking up a road grader to block for Matt Forte in their ground attack.

Strengths

  • 4 year starter at left tackle
  • Ideal size for a tackle
  • Fundamentally sound
  • A mauler - tremendous run blocker - drives defenders off the ball
  • Mirrors well in pass pro
  • Uses hands well
  • Should be a solid starter at right tackle although could play left side in a power running system
  • Had a strong week at the Senior Bowl handling speed rushers better than expected

Weaknesses

  • Solid but not great as a pass blocker
  • Slow feet leave him vulnerable against speed rushers
  • Needs to improve his footwork
  • Does not bend his knees enough causing him to lose leverage
  • May lack the athleticism to play the left side at the next level
