Drafted in the 2011 Draft by the Houston Texans in the 2nd round with the #10 pick.
With the Texans shifting to a 3-4 under Wade Phillips, the team was in need of some standout pass rushers from the linebacker position. They get one in Reed, who is a high-motor, quick twitch guy in the mold of Clay Matthews. He should fit in well coming off the edge in Houston.

Strengths

  • "Arch" rusher, rounds of pass bockers well.
  • Everybit capable of taking on tackles 1 on 1.
  • Almost impossible to block when he has a head of steam, making him difficult to block with a RB/FB
  • Extremely strong guy in the lower and upper halves of his body. Displays the strength at the point of attack.
  • Great balance, rarely hits the turf.
  • Athletic but extremely raw player, which can be both a plus or a minus. Burst onto the scene in his senior year with 6.5 sacks and 10 TFL.
  • Has excelled at dropping into coverage at Senior Bowl and during conversion drills at combine
  • Good speed and lateral agility 
 

Weaknesses

  • Hands weren't active enough, which lead to only having 6.5 sacks and not reaching double digits.
  • Isn't an explosive first step guy unless he is standing out. Struggles getting out of a 3-point stance quickly.
  • Tends to fly around and overpursue the play.
  • Has the skillset but has little expeirence dropping into coverage, which could slow his transition if he goes to the 3-4. 
  • Seems to be lost in space.
  • Raw player who may need time develop
  • Lacks the size and bulk to play DE in a 4-3
