Round 1
| Pick | Team | Pos | Player | School |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | St. Louis Rams | QB | Sam Bradford # | Oklahoma |
| The question isn't whether Sam Bradford is going to St Louis, its will he sign before the draft and for what price. The Rams need to convert to a spread and use the indoor playing surface to their advantage. | ||||
| 2 | Detroit Lions | DT | Ndamukong Suh | Nebraska |
| The Lions defense was horrendous in 2009 and Suh would be a major upgrade. Playing alongside Korey Williams will help with his development. Don't be surprised if Russell Okung enters the conversation. | ||||
| 3 | Tampa Bay Buccaneers | DT | Gerald McCoy # | Oklahoma |
| Tampa Bay ranked last in the league in run defense in 2009. McCoy is an average run defender, but is a tremendous pass rusher who can collapse the pocket. Tampa Bay has arguably the worst defensive line in the NFL. | ||||
| 4 | Washington Redskins | OT | Russell Okung | Oklahoma State |
| After trading for Donovan McNabb, the Redskins have no choice but to draft Okung at #4 overall. The Redskins do not have an NFL caliber offensive tackle on their current roster. | ||||
| 5 | Kansas City Chiefs | OT | Bryan Bulaga # | Iowa |
| Offensive tackle or Eric Berry that is the question if you are a Chiefs fan. Berry is the safest player on the board, but Matt Cassel is the least upright quarterback in the NFL. Branden Albert is a better fit at guard or on the right side. Bulaga is an immediate upgrade for the offense. | ||||
| 6 | Seattle Seahawks | OT | Trent Williams | Oklahoma |
| Most believe if Eric Berry slides past Kansas City, this will be the pick. I believe the exact opposite. Walter Jones missed the last two seasons with injuries and the Seahawks struggled mightily. Williams may be a work in progress at left tackle, but the Seahawks feel he is a safer pick than the next group of tackles. | ||||
| 7 | Cleveland Browns | QB | Jimmy Clausen # | Notre Dame |
| Mike Holmgren is starting to cave with his smokescreen of being anti-Jimmy Clausen. I find it hard to believe Mike Holmgren would pass on a quarterback who was coached by Charlie Weis and has three years of starting experience in a pro style offense. | ||||
| 8 | Oakland Raiders | S | Eric Berry # | Tennessee |
| Even Al Davis can't screw this pick up. Berry and Tyvon Branch would form one of the best young duos at safety in the NFL. Berry has all of the athletic skills Al Davis is looking for in a 1st round pick. With the glaring need(s) of quarterback, offensive tackle and defensive line by the top seven teams, don't be surprised if Eric Berry is drafted here or by Jacksonville at #10. | ||||
| 9 | Buffalo Bills | OT | Anthony Davis # | Rutgers |
| With the top three tackles and Jimmy Clausen off the board, Buffalo is on the phone attempting to trade down. The Bills are in dire need of a left tackle and have a history of reaching for players to fill a need (Donte Whitner 2006 and Aaron Maybin 2009) | ||||
| 10 | Jacksonville Jaguars | ILB | Rolando McClain # | Alabama |
| The 2007 Jacksonville Jaguar defense was successful due to the leadership of Mike Peterson in the middle. We saw how that story ended. McClain is an instinctive linebacker who brings strong character and leadership to the locker room. This would allow Justin Durant to shift to the outside. If Jacksonville is not interested in McClain, they should make a trade with either Denver or the NY Giants. | ||||
| 11 | Denver Broncos | C | Maurkice Pouncey # | Florida |
| With McClain off the board, the Broncos will shift to another glaring hole at center. Josh McDaniel clearly doesn't care what other people think and could draft Maurkice Pouncey with this pick. | ||||
| 12 | Miami Dolphins | 34LB/OLB | Sergio Kindle | Texas |
| With the departures of both Joey Porter and Jason Taylor, this pick is a no-brainer. Kindle has the size and athletic ability to thrive as a 3-4 OLB. | ||||
| 13 | San Francisco 49ers | CB | Joe Haden # | Florida |
| The Niners must leave this draft with a starting offensive tackle, but with Anthony Davis off the board the Niners will fill their need at cornerback. Despite a poor 40 time at the combine, Haden is clearly the best corner prospect in this class. | ||||
| 14 | Seattle Seahawks | DE | Derrick Morgan # | Georgia Tech |
| With the retirement of Patrick Kearney and the trade of Darryl Tapp, the Seahawks have a gaping hole at defensive end. Morgan is by far the best 4-3 defensive end prospect in this year's draft. | ||||
| 15 | New York Giants | DT | Dan Williams | Tennessee |
| With Rolando McClain already gone, the Giants will fill another major hole at defensive tackle. Dan Williams is not a great pass rusher, but will be a significant upgrade over Barry Coefield, Chris Canty and Jay Alford. | ||||
| 16 | Tennessee Titans | DE/34LB | Jason Pierre-Paul # | USF |
| The Titans pass defense was a mess in 2009. Defensive end is a major need an Jason Pierre-Paul is the most athletic defensive end on the board. Jeff Fisher is the perfect coach to help Pierre-Paul maximize his talent. | ||||
| 17 | San Francisco 49ers | G | Mike Iupati | Idaho |
| Iupati played guard throughout his career, but has the potential to play right tackle. Mike Singletary is looking for a dominant run blocker to anchor the right side. | ||||
| 18 | Pittsburgh Steelers | DT | Jared Odrick | Penn State |
| With Iupati and Pouncey off the board, the Steelers will address their aging defensive line. Odrick is a high motor guy who can collapse the pocket. | ||||
| 19 | Atlanta Falcons | DE/34LB | Brandon Graham | Michigan |
| Without a second round pick, the Falcons need to draft a defensive player who can start right away. Graham is fundamentally sound and plays with a high effort at all times. | ||||
| 20 | Houston Texans | S | Earl Thomas # | Texas |
| The Texans secondary is a mess after the departure of Dunta Robinson. Earl Thomas is center field type safety that is a necessity when your trying to catch the Colts in the AFC South. | ||||
| 21 | Cincinnati Bengals | WR | Dez Bryant # | Oklahoma State |
| The Bengal offense needs a deep threat a wide receiver. Dez Bryant is the most talented receiver in the draft and comes with enough baggage to be a Bengal. Expect a long holdout if this scenario plays out. | ||||
| 22 | New England Patriots | DE/34LB | Jerry Hughes | TCU |
| The Patriot defense is in desperate need of a big time pass rusher. Hughes looks comfortable on his feet and does a nice job making tackles on the back side. | ||||
| 23 | Green Bay Packers | OT | Bruce Campbell # | Maryland |
| This is an ideal situation for Bruce Campbell. With Chad Clifton coming back for one more year, Campbell can learn behind a quality veteran. With proper coaching, Campbell could end up as the best tackle in this talented class. | ||||
| 24 | Philadelphia Eagles | OLB | Sean Weatherspoon | Missouri |
| Weatherspoon is a perfect fit in the Philly defense. Weatherspoon can play either outside spot and is a tremendous blitzer. The Eagles need a linebacker who can play right away. | ||||
| 25 | Baltimore Ravens | TE | Jermaine Gresham | Oklahoma |
| The Ravens are determined to surround Joe Flacco with weapons in the passing game. Todd Heap is in decline as a receiver. Gresham would have been a top 10 pick without the knee injury. | ||||
| 26 | Arizona Cardinals | CB | Kyle Wilson | Boise State |
| The Cardinal defense has major holes in the back seven. Kyle Wilson is a tough and instinctive corner than can produce immediate dividends. | ||||
| 27 | Dallas Cowboys | S | Taylor Mays | USC |
| After releasing Ken Hamlin, the Cowboys have a gaping hole at safety. The athleticism of Taylor Mays is too much for Jerry Jones to pass on. | ||||
| 28 | San Diego Chargers | RB | C.J. Spiller | Clemson |
| Its hard to believe a talented running back like CJ Spiller is on the board, but teams with running back needs in this draft have bigger needs at other positions. Spiller's receiving skills will put him ahead of Ryan Mathews. | ||||
| 29 | New York Jets | DT | Terrence Cody # | Alabama |
| With the future of Kris Jenkins in doubt, the Jets need to address their 3-4 nose tackle situation. The Jets will likely go for a 3-4 OLB in round 2. | ||||
| 30 | Minnesota Vikings | DT | Brian Price # | UCLA |
| The Vikings have no depth at defensive tackle. Price is a one gap penetrator who can improve an already dangerous pass rush. | ||||
| 31 | Indianapolis Colts | OT | Charles Brown | USC |
| The Colts are smart enough to realize they must upgrade their offensive tackles. Brown is one of the most underrated tackles in this years class. | ||||
| 32 | New Orleans Saints | DE | Carlos Dunlap # | Florida |
| Dunlap had some off the field issues, but is too good of a talent for New Orleans to pass on. If Dunlap develops a work ethic he can be dominant. | ||||
