Welcome to NFLDraft101's live coverage of the 2010 NFL Scouting combine.
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 07:01:46)
All you need to do to join the conversation is ask a question or post a comment
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 07:03:17)
Expect Bruce Campbell to be the story of the day along the offensive line. Another lineman to watch is USC's Charles Brown who should test well.
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 07:04:11)
Among tight ends the player whom i think has the most to gain is Clay Harbour. Of course Jermaine Gresham gets a lift if he just looks healthy (a little rust is ok in his case)
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 07:07:54)
Trindon Holiday ran unofficial 40s of 4.27 and 4.32
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 07:08:50)
Bruce Campbell unofficial 4.78 40.
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 07:11:22)
I hardly recognized Brandon Carter without the face paint. Probably a good call on his part.
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 07:12:48)
Anthony Davis has not been esp. quick in early drills or the 40 but shows good footwork and keen bend.
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 07:23:11)
Jeff Byers looked real stiff in the mirror drill showcasing his limited athleticism.
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 07:26:44)
Anthony Davis showed excellent footwork in the mirror drill. Very fluid. By comparison Bruce Campbell looked good but a little mechanical.
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 07:33:47)
Expect Selvish Capers to test well but you see how raw he is when you watch him perform in the drills.
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 07:45:35)
Two guys to keep an eye on in group 2 of the offensive linemen are Jared Veldheer and Tony Washington
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 08:05:48)
Washington 5.19 unofficial 40. Out of Abilene Christian he is well built and is from the same school as Bernard Scott and Johnny Knox
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 08:08:47)
Trent Williams runs a stunning 4.82. Big surprise. He looked like anything but like a left tackle this year but he is off to a good start in proving he has the athleticism to play the left side.
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 08:10:59)
Bruce Campbell could challenge to have the best workouts among tight ends too. He is performing similar to Brandon Pettigrew a year ago.
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 08:15:34)
Bruce Campbell is getting the pub but Russell Okung is quietly performing well. 5.17 40 and 38 bench reps thus far
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 08:16:35)
Jared Veldheer 5.07 40 off to a good start. He looks like a left tackle at 6'8.
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 08:25:18)
If you want to see something other than the 40s visit nfl.com's coverage and go back and watch group 1 in the drills.
Matt
(02-27-2010 08:46:47)
Could Trent Williams move into a top 10 pick now that he's showing he could be a left tackle?
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 08:49:17)
Matt, the tape shows Williams can't play left tackle but he is off to a good start in showing off his athleticism with his strong 40. Top 10 pick is going to be tough esp. after Campbell's workout but Davis, Bulaga, Williams, Campbell are all relatively equal. Of that group Williams would fit best for a run oriented team. He will fall no farther than SF 2nd 1st round pick.
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 08:51:41)
Thus far the lineman losing the most momentum has to be Anthony Davis. He has a lot of talent but his athleticism and work ethic concerns are reminiscent of Anthony Collins of a couple years ago. I am not saying Davis is a 4th round pick but he has lost some ground today.
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 08:53:29)
Williams continues to impress in the drills.
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 08:59:42)
People will try to give Bruce Campbell the workout warrior label but you could see his talent and potential on tape. He is a better pass blocker than run blocker at this stage but he has the potential to be a top tackle.
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 09:01:49)
I know Trindo Holiday is a return specialist but I don't understand why he would not workout with the wide receivers or running backs?
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 09:13:42)
In watching group 1's drills Charles Brown has looked good. Bends his kneesd and looks fluid in his movements.
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 09:19:08)
Shelley Smith of Colorado State is an athletic interior lineman.
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 09:25:04)
Big John Jerry had the 7th fastest official 40 which is impressive for a guy whose best position is right guard. Don't let the workout fool you though he is not a good tackle prospect (just ask Jevan Snead). Put him inside and let him maul.
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 09:26:42)
If you want to know why Mike Iupati is considered a first round pick just watch his footwork. The combine tests don't provide a great opportunity for him to shine but he looks fluid and polished in the drills as expected.
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 09:32:24)
Ciron Black is this year's Phil Loadholt. Not athletic enough for the left side but can be a road grader in the ground game. A solid right tackle only who get picked earlier than you would expect.
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 09:34:49)
Rodger Saffold is more athletic than i expected. He looks fluid and shows good footwork.
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 09:38:35)
Tight ends getting ready to start their 40s. It will be interesting to see how many outrun Bruce Campbell.
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 09:44:31)
Good to see Jason Fox working out today after the knee injury and irregular heartbeat that kept him out of the bowl game.
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 09:59:45)
Dorin Dickerson 4.4 40 unofficial. Don't know if he has a position (can't block) but Dustin Keller turned an excellent combine into a late 1st and after the top 3 the TE position is wide open.
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 10:03:11)
Gresham runs a 4.76 40 which is what most expected. Harbour sub 4.7 with a 4.68. I think he could sneak into round 4 with a good workout.
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 10:06:29)
Anthony McCoy is likely disappointed with his 4.78
hilton
(02-27-2010 10:12:52)
has bruce campbell pushed himself into the top ten
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 10:15:28)
I hate to read too much into workouts but Campbell has likely moved himself into the top 10 esp. considering the Raiders are picking 8th. I still have Okung in front of him but he closed the gap on Williams, Bulaga and esp. Davis today.
hilton
(02-27-2010 10:17:13)
okung running 5.17 with 38 bench reps is impressive is he still the first tackle taken off the board.
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 10:18:35)
Most definitely. Okung is not getting nearly the buzz that he deserves. He is a better prospect than any of last year's tackles. I think the Lions should take take him at #2 and if not he falls no further than Washington or Kansas City. Any tackle selected over Okung is a reach.
hilton
(02-27-2010 10:21:05)
lions should take him at #2 too protect stafford but if suh is still on the board he'll fall to washington. thanks
Dan Wernery
(02-27-2010 10:21:50)
Okung may not get by Tampa. If McCoy and Suh are off the board, Tampa could take Okung. Left tackle is the only weakness on their offensive line.
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 10:22:43)
Dickerson's 40 was stellar but my biggest tight end surprise is Dennis Pitta running a 4.63. He is a tremendous receiver with a high football IQ and answering the speed question could make him a 2nd rounder.
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 10:23:17)
I agree with your assesment Hilton.
Dan Wernery
(02-27-2010 10:24:54)
Has Aaron Hernandez ran his 40 yet? He is the best H-Back prospect in the draft
Dan Wernery
(02-27-2010 10:26:04)
Pitta reminds me of John Casey last year
Dan Wernery
(02-27-2010 10:26:44)
I just saw that Hernandez declined to run the 40
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 10:27:06)
Aaron Hernandez chose not to participate in the 40. Pitta appears to be taking advantage of the opportunity.
Dan Wernery
(02-27-2010 10:28:41)
If you look at Mark Sanchez and Matt Ryan the last two years and their productivitty as rookies. They not only had a solid O-Line they had a solid TE.
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 10:33:16)
I've gone back to watch some of the group linemen drills and John Jerry has been extremely impressive. Surprisingly good footwork.
Dan Wernery
(02-27-2010 10:35:12)
Jerry experience at tackle will help him at guard in the NFL. Sometimes linmen the size of Jerry who don't play tackle in college struggle in pass protection.
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 10:37:07)
Trent Williams has done a tremendous job answering questions about his athleticism today. I am still skeptical of playing him at left tackle but he has helped himself today. Fundamentally sound in drills too.
Dan Wernery
(02-27-2010 10:39:01)
Trent Williams will benefit from SF, Pitt, GB, SD among others with a gaping hole at RT
Dan Wernery
(02-27-2010 10:40:01)
The Ravens had the right mindset with Michael Oher last year. They considered him a RT only prospect and he thrived. He only played the left side when Gaither was injured.
Dan Wernery
(02-27-2010 10:41:03)
I haven't had a chance to watch all of the combine, but in my opinion Gresham is clearly the #1 prospect at TE
Dan Wernery
(02-27-2010 10:43:01)
Tony Schefler went from a 7th pick to a 2nd pick in this drill in 2006.
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 10:45:35)
Any concerns Gresham had of not being the top tight end were answered when he worked out and Gronkowski and Hernandez did not (esp. Hernandez)
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 10:47:08)
Jimmy Graham looks very smooth catching passes in the gauntlet. A natural pass catcher.
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 10:48:47)
Rodger Saffold 9'5 broad jump. He is having a huge day today in both the tests and the drills. With the number of team's needing tackles he could have solidified a 2nd round grade and could sneak into round 1 if there is an early run at the position.
Dan Wernery
(02-27-2010 10:51:59)
He could be a target of Det, Wsh or KCif they decide to go another position in round 1.
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 10:59:22)
I like Tony Moeaki, decent athlete, good hands, and solid blocker. He's having a nice all-around workout today.
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 11:02:03)
For as nice a workout as Dickerson is having it is very hard to figure out where he will play. He does not look too small for a tight end (20 lbs less than the other TEs) and does not have the quick twitch of a receiver.
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 11:21:47)
It would not surprise me if a tight end did not get drafted in the first round. The reason is the injuries to Gronkowski and Gresham drop them and Hernandez is undersized. Then you look at the depth at the position and the tight ends just don't appear to have early value.
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 11:24:06)
The unfair bashing of LeFevour's decision to not workout. He played in the Senior Bowl considering the weaknesses of the other players he is battling for the #3 quarterback spot he has more to lose than gain at this point in my opinion.
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 11:24:26)
To wrap up i will give my day one winners and losers.
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 11:25:31)
Winners: Bruce Campbell, Rodger Saffold, John Jerry, Tony Washington, Tony Moeaki, Jimmy Graham, Dennis Pitta, and Jermaine Gresham.
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 11:26:17)
One more winner: Trent Williams.
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 11:27:36)
Losers: Anthony Davis, Adam Ulatoski, Jeff Byers, A.McCoy, R.Gronkowski and A. Hernandez.
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 11:29:00)
Dan Wernery will be covering the combine for NFLDraft101.com tomorrow. I will be back on Monday. Also pay attention for my day O-Line and Tight End recap this evening. You can also follow me on Twitter: nfldraft101
Chris Maier
(02-27-2010 11:29:49)
Thanks for joining NFLDraft101's day one coverage of the 2010 NFL Scouting Combine.
Dan Wernery
(02-28-2010 08:03:06)
Welcome to NFLDraft101's day two coverage of the 2010 NFL Scouting Combine
Dan Wernery
(02-28-2010 08:04:22)
Hopefully this is not three hours of Tim Tebow coverage.
Dan Wernery
(02-28-2010 08:04:56)
Feel free to send us your questions and comments and join the discussion
Dan Wernery
(02-28-2010 08:11:25)
Tim Tebow is nothing more than a 4th or 5th round pick. If you're an NFL GM you cannot spend a pick in the first three rounds on a QB with this many question marks.
Dan Wernery
(02-28-2010 08:14:02)
When you look at the WR position, its Dez Bryant and everyone else. Golden Tate and Arrelious Benn are the only other first round wideouts.
Dan Wernery
(02-28-2010 08:16:10)
It doesn't help this year's class that Anquan Bolden and Brandon Marshall are available for a first round pick.
Dan Wernery
(02-28-2010 08:18:22)
I am surprised Armanti Edwards did not run the 40. Edwards is more of a WR candidate. See Julian Edelman last year
Dan Wernery
(02-28-2010 08:20:42)
Jacoby Ford ran a 4.27 40 time.
Dan Wernery
(02-28-2010 08:24:19)
At some point the NFL will have to incorporate more of the spread offense into their playbook. Jimmy Clausen is the only quarterback in this year's class to run a pro style offense in college.
Dan Wernery
(02-28-2010 08:25:43)
Send us your questions and comments
Dan Wernery
(02-28-2010 08:34:46)
If you tired of watching QB run 40 yard dashes go to NFL.com. Right now WR are doing the vertical jump drill
Dan Wernery
(02-28-2010 08:35:18)
Tim Tebow ran a 4.7 which was slower than Dan Lefevour.
Dan Wernery
(02-28-2010 08:36:20)
At the Senior Bowl Dan Lefevour clearly established himself as the #3 QB. On my board I have him rated #2. Sam Bradford has a strong arm but appears to be a system QB
Dan Wernery
(02-28-2010 08:37:19)
I think Tebow needs to be willing to play FB to help his draft stock.
Dan Wernery
(02-28-2010 08:39:35)
Trindon Holliday and Brandon Banks ran 40 times in the 4.3's. Both guys are sub 5-9 in height and have the intangbles to be tremendous kick and punt returners.
Dan Wernery
(02-28-2010 08:44:54)
Brandon Lafell will need to run a better 40 time than 4.6 to move into round 1. I still like Lafell as a possession receiver. Excellent route runner.
Dan Wernery
(02-28-2010 08:48:27)
Kerry Meier is an ideal slot receiver in the NFL.
Dan Wernery
(02-28-2010 08:56:09)
Taylor Price ran a 4.43 40 time. Price had mixed reviews at the Senior Bowl. Price could go as high as round 2 or as low as round 5.
Dan Wernery
(02-28-2010 08:58:19)
Unless St Louis signs a free agent QB, I expect LeFevour to be a Ram if he gets out of round 1.
Dan Wernery
(02-28-2010 09:01:43)
Golden Tate made himself a lot of money with a 4.36 40 time. Tate has lots of big play ability.
Dan Wernery
(02-28-2010 09:05:34)
Michael Irvin has been surprisingly solid so far.
Dan Wernery
(02-28-2010 09:22:10)
Dexter McCluster is the most intriguing prospect this weekend. He is the most versatile player on the board.
Dan Wernery
(02-28-2010 09:22:38)
Please send us your questions and comments and join our chat
Dan Wernery
(02-28-2010 09:24:26)
There are a lot of possession type of receivers in this year's class. Give me a possession receiver over a speed guy any day. Speed Burners type receivers are too hard to predict.
Dan Wernery
(02-28-2010 09:29:57)
I was shocked Freddie Barnes from Bowling Green was not invited. He may be a system receiver, but if you cat 124 passes in a season, you at least deserve an extended look by the scouts.
Dan Wernery
(02-28-2010 09:39:29)
Right now Dan Lefevour is throwing on nfl.com
Dan Wernery
(02-28-2010 09:42:21)
Tony Pike has the best size of any of the mid-round prospects. The learning curve for Pike is high due to the type of spread offense at Cincinnati.
Dan Wernery
(02-28-2010 09:46:33)
Taylor Price looks very natural in the gauntlet drill.
Dan Wernery
(02-28-2010 09:48:05)
Golden Tate needs to look the ball in.
Dan Wernery
(02-28-2010 09:50:33)
Mike Williams is an intriguing prospect. The talent is there, but you have to wonder about a guy who quit on his team. He skills are raw. The interview portion of the combine will be very important.
Dan Wernery
(02-28-2010 09:57:07)
Emmaneul Sanders from SMU has a lot of Davone Bess qualities. Sanders benefited from the June Jones run and shoot offense.
Dan Wernery
(02-28-2010 09:59:59)
Last year the Raiders went with a Maryland-Ohio 1st and 2nd round combo with Heyward-Bey and Michael Mitchell. They could repeat this year with Bruce Campbell and Taylor Price.
Dan Wernery
(02-28-2010 10:06:27)
I agree with the broadcast team, outside of Ryan Matthews and CJ Spiller there are a lot of situational running backs in this draft.
Dan Wernery
(02-28-2010 10:11:26)
There are a lot o 9.6 jumps in the broad jump
Dan Wernery
(02-28-2010 10:15:07)
Ryan Mathews has a tremendous body and looked very natural in the broad jump.
Joseph
(02-28-2010 10:21:00)
Can CJ Spiller move into the top 10
Dan Wernery
(02-28-2010 10:22:28)
I don't see it at this point. Tampa and Seattle are the only top 10 teams with major RB needs, but they have bigger needs other than RB. Miami is the first spot I can see Spiller going to
Cam
(02-28-2010 10:23:29)
Will San Diego trade up to get a RB?
Dan Wernery
(02-28-2010 10:24:56)
SD is known for being uncoventional on draft day, but I don't see them trading up. The key for SD is not to reach on a RB. If Spiller and Mathews are off the board, I see them trading down into round 2.
Joseph
(02-28-2010 10:26:44)
I heard the Browns may trade up to get a QB, is that true?
Dan Wernery
(02-28-2010 10:36:01)
Keep in mind MIke Holmgren is the GM and not the coach. Cleveland has too many needs to give away the draft picks necessary to move up.
Rick
(02-28-2010 10:36:05)
I've missed the coverage today. Has their been a standout performance or performances?
Dan Wernery
(02-28-2010 10:37:21)
Jacoby Ford ran a 4.28 40. Golden Tate ran 4.36 40 time answer questions about his speed.
Rick
(02-28-2010 10:40:45)
Have the running backs worked out yet?
Dan Wernery
(02-28-2010 10:41:35)
They just started working out. NFL Network showed a lot of broad jump. Ryan Mathews looks impressive physically.
Joseph
(02-28-2010 10:43:01)
Will Lefevor make it into round 1?
Dan Wernery
(02-28-2010 10:43:59)
I wouldn't be surprised if someone traded up late into round 1 to leapfrog St Louis.
Rick
(02-28-2010 10:44:08)
Is Mathews a 1st round pick? What are your thoughts on Jonathan Dwyer?
Dan Wernery
(02-28-2010 10:48:01)
Mathews is a first round pick for sure. He will not get by San Diego. Dwyer is a complimentary power back. A team like Philly or Houston who lost games because of short yardage plays could take a flier on Dwyer in round 2. The GA Tech offense will impact his stock.
Rick
(02-28-2010 10:52:18)
What about McCluster?
Dan Wernery
(02-28-2010 10:53:49)
McCluster would be an ideal fit in SD. He is versatile and can make people miss in the open field. Looking at the teams draftin late in round 1, San Diego is the only place I see McCluster landing.
Joseph
(02-28-2010 10:53:54)
Can the Redskins ignore the O-Line and draft Clausen?
Dan Wernery
(02-28-2010 10:56:14)
I've said many times if Okung is off the board, the Skins will consider drafting a QB and using draft picks in 2011 to get a QB. They will supposedly tender Jason Campbell a 1 year deal, but I don't expect this to stop Washington from drafting Clausen. I can't see Mike Shanahan picking Bradford.
Dan Wernery
(02-28-2010 11:00:09)
Thank You for joining NFLDraft101.com on Day Two of the NFL Scouting Combine. On Monday join Chris Maier from 11-2 when Defensive Linemen and Linebackers will show their stuff.
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 07:08:03)
Welcome to day 3 of NFL Draft 101's live coverage of the 2010 Scouting Combine workouts
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 07:08:49)
Big story to start the day, Brandon Graham strained a hamstring in the 40 and his workout is done for the day. 4.69/4.69 were his unofficial times.
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 07:09:47)
Gerald McCoy who has drawn comparisons to Tommie Harris was disappointing in the 40 going 4.96 and 5.14 unofficial.
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 07:10:57)
McCoy will be compared to N.Suh all day long and after losing in the bench (23 vs. 32 for Suh), McCoy did not show the explosiveness expected in the 40
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 07:14:57)
Two guys to watch today: Kevin Basped and Linval Joseph
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 07:31:17)
One shining star early is Junior Galette of Stillman 4.77 40 and has shown good burst and balance in drills thus far.
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 07:36:04)
Everson Griffin is showing the athleticism that has the scouts excited.
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 07:37:09)
Carlos Dunlap is not showing the elite athleticism we expected. He is a little tight and not overly explosive.
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 07:40:15)
Clifton Geathers is a big guy with long arms who moves rather well. Looks like a 5 technique.
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 07:44:19)
Thaddeus Gibson is having a strong day.
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 07:46:07)
Linval Joseph had some balance issues in the first bag drill but is looking like a good athlete for his size. 5.09 40 for a nose tackle prospect.
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 07:47:31)
Kevin Basped showing good athleticism but plays too high.
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 07:51:12)
Jerry Hughes lacks ideal height but has long arms and good burst, speed and athleticism.
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 08:05:46)
Sergio Kindle merely average in conversion drills. Change of direction was not esp. good.
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 08:08:30)
Kevin Basped has been a disappointment in conversion drills. Needs to bend his knees more.
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 08:10:39)
I am going to have to re-watch the drills later today because on a whole I have not been impressed with Gerald McCoy. He was not bad but just did not show #1 overall explosion and burst. Balance was just average.
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 08:20:51)
Conversion winners: Thaddeus Gibson, Koa Misi, Jerry Hughes, Junior Galette
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 08:21:13)
Conversion losers: K.Basped, A. Coleman, G.Hardy
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 08:21:46)
Everson Griffin and Sergio Kindle were merely average in conversion drills. Both struggled with change of direction.
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 08:30:09)
Jason Pierre Paul 4.64 40. Great athlete but is not worth the #3 overall pick. More about potential than production.
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 08:34:22)
4.98 40 for Suh. Pretty much equal to McCoy. Overall is testing equal or better than McCoy thus far.
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 08:40:02)
5.10 40 for Torell Troup is good for a NT.
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 08:40:24)
V. Oghobaase very disappointing 5.43 first 40.
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 08:40:58)
I expected sub 5.0 for Brian Price but only ran 5.13.
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 08:44:25)
CJ Wilson 4.83 excellent time for a big guy.
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 08:45:47)
My apologies for focusing primarily on 40 times right now but it is the only major thing going on right now. Will focus on drills when this group is done.
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 08:48:16)
Willie Young's legs are too skinny for a D-Lineman but his time is slow for a rush linebacker.
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 08:50:04)
Earl Mitchell 4.7 40 is fantastic for a defensive tackle. He could really move up with a good day today.
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 08:58:19)
Suh working out has had tremendous effect on today's overall work out as his presence has kept several other big names working out including Morgan and McCoy.
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 09:07:39)
Vince Oghobaase has to be my most disappointing 40 of the day. I expect Terrence Cody to run 5.4 but an athletic DT like Oghobaase should have been much faster.
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 09:11:51)
I am going to be on AM1570 the Score (Appleton, WI) this afternoon at 1:25 pm. You can listen in at: http://www.am1570thescore.com
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 09:13:49)
Jeff Owens is a guy to watch in the drills today. Led the D-Lineman in the bench press and a solid 4.97 40 and is showing why he was considered a day one or two pick before injuring his knee in 2008.
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 09:31:40)
Dan Williams moves really well for a NT type.
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 09:38:57)
Suh continues to impress. He is looking great in the drills thus far. Good footwork and balance.
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 09:54:54)
J.Ordrick did not impress in the 40 but is very fluid with great footwork in the drills.
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 10:01:09)
Earl Mitchell is quietly having a great day showing tremendous athleticism for a DT.
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 10:15:15)
I am going to be on AM1570 the Score (Appleton, WI) this afternoon at 1:25 pm EST. You can listen in at: http://www.am1570thescore.com
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 10:18:03)
Derrick Morgan is not a rush linebacker as shown in the conversion drills
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 10:19:09)
NFLN has reported Rolando McClain will not workout. Do not expect anyone to criticize him for skipping because he played for Alabama.
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 10:21:28)
Time to vent. If you are watching the drills online you are not likely someone who cares about player interviews so if you do them please do not take the camera off the players esp. during the conversion drills.
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 10:22:19)
on the plus side NFLN has done a great job spreading out the groups today. Easy to watch the drills except when they leave the action.
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 10:24:33)
taking a break for the interview be back in 10-15 minutes.
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 10:38:02)
Will need to go back and watch the TV version to evaluate the 2nd groups conversion drills. Ricky Sapp and Lindsay Witten looked good but Derrick Morgan and Jason Pierre Paul looked a little uncomfortable. I am in the minority but i think Pierre Paul is a better 4-3 DE than rush linebacker. He needs to play with the ball in front of him.
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 10:44:10)
If you are not going to workout it is always best to say you tweaked your hamstring than say you are going to wait until your pro day. It is amazing how many guys have strained hamstrings despite working out everyday for nearly 2 months to prepare.
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 10:45:56)
linebacker i am most looking forward to watching is Rennie Curran the Darren Sproles of linebackers.
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 10:49:27)
Overall as much as it is a defensive draft, the linebacker class is not a deep group. The dropoff in talent is fast and steep so if you want one you need to take one early even if it feels like a reach.
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 10:56:27)
Jamar Chaney 4.51 40 - a good start for the day. On the flipside Rennie Curran needed better than 4.72
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 11:04:44)
Micah Johnson has a very disappointing 4.99 40. He's a run stuffer but needed to show some level of speed.
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 11:05:16)
AJ Edds with a solid 4.67. He is a great coverage linebacker who should be a nice value in round 3 or 4. Very underrated.
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 11:07:42)
Norwood ran better than expected with a 4.67. Questionable athleticism but he is versatile and has great first round instincts.
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 11:10:18)
Going back to Edds guys like him who are good in coverage are more valuable as the game becomes more pass-oriented.
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 11:17:10)
Sean Weatherspoon and Daryl Washington both put up 4.57 40s. 'Spoon is one of the most versatile linebackers in the draft and could sneak ahead of Bowman to be the first OLB selected.
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 11:25:01)
To wrap up today's live chat it is time for some DE and DT winners and losers.
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 11:26:57)
Winners DT: N.Suh, Earl Mitchell, Linval Joseph,J.Owens, Malcolm Sheppard and Dan Williams
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 11:28:07)
Losers DT: G. McCoy (outperformed by Suh), Vince Oghobaase (arguably most disappointing workout i have seen thus far). Brian Price (not as explosive as hoped for).
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 11:29:39)
Winners defensive ends: R. Sapp, D. Morgan (worked out), Lindsay Witten, Junior Galette, Thaddeus Gibson, Everson Griffin, Jason Pierre Paul, Koa Misi, Jerry Hughes
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 11:31:20)
Losers: Sergio Kindle (merely avg in conversion drills), Brandon Graham (strained hammy kept him from doing conversion drills), Antonio Coleman, and Kevin Basped (good athlete played too high and looked poor in conversion drills)
Chris Maier
(03-01-2010 11:31:55)
Check back later today for the defensive tackle, defensive end and linebacker recap.
Chris Maier

NFLDraft101's Doug Lancy will be leading tomorrow's coverage. Thanks for joining NFLDraft101's live coverage of the 2010 Scouting Combine.
Doug Lancy
(03-02-2010 07:00:30)
Welcome to day 4 of the NFL Draft 101's live coverage of the 2010 Scouting Combine workouts.
Doug Lancy
(03-02-2010 07:02:25)
Myron Lewis showed good speed with a 4.45 40 time.
Doug Lancy
(03-02-2010 07:10:29)
Asante showed good turn in the drill.
Doug Lancy
(03-02-2010 07:17:50)
Joe Haden is not looking as solid as I expected, a slow 40 (4.57 unofficially) and some trouble turning his hips.
Doug Lancy
(03-02-2010 07:20:37)
Chris Chancellor showed good turns in both directions, an important piece for the NFL.
Doug Lancy
(03-02-2010 07:31:57)
Eric Berry is having a solid combine.
Rick
(03-02-2010 07:38:23)
After Joe Haden, who do you think is the next best corner? Any worth a first round pick?
Doug Lancy
(03-02-2010 07:40:13)
Perrish Cox is my second corner, and with a good workout could move into the first round. So could Kyle Wilson, but right now none beyond Haden look like first round picks.
James
(03-02-2010 07:49:26)
After running a 4.57 in the 40 how much will that affect Joe Haden's stock?
Doug Lancy
(03-02-2010 07:49:55)
Chad Jones was one of my guys, but has been looking pedestrian in the drills.
Doug Lancy
(03-02-2010 07:51:54)
Haden is still the best corner in the class. He may no longer fall in the top 10, but won't fall past the first half of round 1. And a good pro-day workout could get him back in the top 10. Rumor has it he was a little heavy at the combine (maybe bulked up too much).
Doug Lancy
(03-02-2010 07:56:31)
Brian Jackson is another guy having a good combine and could improve his stock greatly.
Doug Lancy
(03-02-2010 08:02:02)
Chris Hawkins is very good at the W drill, but not so great at turning the hips.
Chris
(03-02-2010 08:05:37)
What did C Butler and C Chancellor run? Still looking like 5-6th round?
Doug Lancy
(03-02-2010 08:08:46)
I don't have their unofficial times yet, which could make a big difference, but C Chancellor has probably moved up to a late 3rd to early 4th on his drills. C Butler however hasn't looked as good in the drills and is still a 5-6th rounder.
Doug Lancy
(03-02-2010 08:19:21)
DB Hands drill is showing us who have good hands and will be getting interceptions.
Doug Lancy
(03-02-2010 08:25:19)
Most of the guys looked pretty good in the hands drill, but the quarterbacks went pretty easy on them in my opinion.
Doug Lancy
(03-02-2010 08:29:25)
Eric Berry was so solid, that teams will be hard pressed to pass on him... with any pick. He is definitely in competition for the top 5 picks, although being a safety probably prevents him from going #1 or #2 overall.
Doug Lancy
(03-02-2010 08:38:28)
Brandon Ghee has done nothing to improve his stock and continues to look like a 3rd or 4th round pick.
Doug Lancy
(03-02-2010 08:41:44)
I'm looking forward to seeing Taylor Mays run. A solid time and he moves back into the first round, where I think he belongs.
Doug Lancy
(03-02-2010 08:43:34)
Wow! A 4.24 unofficial time for Mays! Phenomenal, the buzz will be back for Mays!
Doug Lancy
(03-02-2010 08:47:27)
Devin McCourty ran a 4.34, a solid time that would have been more impressive if not following Mays and also is pushing for a first round pick.
Rick
(03-02-2010 08:49:50)
Any thoughts on Morgan Burnett this morning?
Doug Lancy
(03-02-2010 08:51:36)
Morgan Burnett did not work out today. Which probably allowed Taylor Mays to pass him with Mays time.
Doug Lancy
(03-02-2010 08:56:54)
Myron Rolle did not show the speed necessary to move up.
Doug Lancy
(03-02-2010 09:03:55)
Earl Thomas ran a solid time for a safety, but will not catch Eric Berry on our board after watching Berry workout.
Doug Lancy
(03-02-2010 09:05:49)
Kyle Wilson missed an opportunity to become the top corner prospect by working out today, but a hamstring is causing him to wait till the pro-day.
Chris
(03-02-2010 09:17:23)
What did C Butler and C Chancellor run? Still looking like 5-6th round?
Doug Lancy
(03-02-2010 09:19:09)
C Butler ran a 4.41 and C Chancellor ran a a 4.50 unofficially. They're probably 4th-5th round picks.
Doug Lancy
(03-02-2010 09:25:37)
Josh Moore showed solid speed with times of 4.48 and 4.49 and is a guy to watch.
Doug Lancy
(03-02-2010 10:27:08)
Myron Rolle is doing well in drills.
Bill
(03-02-2010 10:32:00)
Which guys impressed in the afternoon workouts?
Doug Lancy
(03-02-2010 10:44:36)
So far, I'd say that Jerome Murphy, Devin McCourty, Syd'Quan Thompson and Taylor Mays.
Doug Lancy
(03-02-2010 11:15:45)
Winners Safeties: Taylor Mays, Eric Berry, and Major Wright.
Doug Lancy
(03-02-2010 11:18:35)
Losers Safeties: Chad Jones, Darrell Stuckey and Morgan Burnett (didn't workout)
Doug Lancy
(03-02-2010 11:25:33)
Winners Corners: Patrick Robinson, Syd'Quan Thompson, Chris Cook, Devin McCourty.
Doug Lancy
(03-02-2010 11:32:28)
Losers Corners: Joe Haden (although no workout by Kyle Wilson probably saves him), Myron Lewis (wasn't impressive in any drill), Trevard Lindley (most likely a nickel corner at best).
Doug Lancy
(03-02-2010 11:34:18)
