Chris Maier (02-27-2010 07:04:11) Among tight ends the player whom i think has the most to gain is Clay Harbour. Of course Jermaine Gresham gets a lift if he just looks healthy (a little rust is ok in his case)

Chris Maier (02-27-2010 08:08:47) Trent Williams runs a stunning 4.82. Big surprise. He looked like anything but like a left tackle this year but he is off to a good start in proving he has the athleticism to play the left side.

Chris Maier (02-27-2010 08:10:59) Bruce Campbell could challenge to have the best workouts among tight ends too. He is performing similar to Brandon Pettigrew a year ago.

Chris Maier (02-27-2010 08:15:34) Bruce Campbell is getting the pub but Russell Okung is quietly performing well. 5.17 40 and 38 bench reps thus far

Chris Maier (02-27-2010 08:49:17) Matt, the tape shows Williams can't play left tackle but he is off to a good start in showing off his athleticism with his strong 40. Top 10 pick is going to be tough esp. after Campbell's workout but Davis, Bulaga, Williams, Campbell are all relatively equal. Of that group Williams would fit best for a run oriented team. He will fall no farther than SF 2nd 1st round pick.

Chris Maier (02-27-2010 08:51:41) Thus far the lineman losing the most momentum has to be Anthony Davis. He has a lot of talent but his athleticism and work ethic concerns are reminiscent of Anthony Collins of a couple years ago. I am not saying Davis is a 4th round pick but he has lost some ground today.

Chris Maier (02-27-2010 08:59:42) People will try to give Bruce Campbell the workout warrior label but you could see his talent and potential on tape. He is a better pass blocker than run blocker at this stage but he has the potential to be a top tackle.

Chris Maier (02-27-2010 09:13:42) In watching group 1's drills Charles Brown has looked good. Bends his kneesd and looks fluid in his movements.

Chris Maier (02-27-2010 09:19:08) Shelley Smith of Colorado State is an athletic interior lineman.

Chris Maier (02-27-2010 09:25:04) Big John Jerry had the 7th fastest official 40 which is impressive for a guy whose best position is right guard. Don't let the workout fool you though he is not a good tackle prospect (just ask Jevan Snead). Put him inside and let him maul.

Chris Maier (02-27-2010 09:26:42) If you want to know why Mike Iupati is considered a first round pick just watch his footwork. The combine tests don't provide a great opportunity for him to shine but he looks fluid and polished in the drills as expected.

Chris Maier (02-27-2010 09:32:24) Ciron Black is this year's Phil Loadholt. Not athletic enough for the left side but can be a road grader in the ground game. A solid right tackle only who get picked earlier than you would expect.

Chris Maier (02-27-2010 09:34:49) Rodger Saffold is more athletic than i expected. He looks fluid and shows good footwork.

Chris Maier (02-27-2010 09:38:35) Tight ends getting ready to start their 40s. It will be interesting to see how many outrun Bruce Campbell.

Chris Maier (02-27-2010 09:44:31) Good to see Jason Fox working out today after the knee injury and irregular heartbeat that kept him out of the bowl game.

Chris Maier (02-27-2010 09:59:45) Dorin Dickerson 4.4 40 unofficial. Don't know if he has a position (can't block) but Dustin Keller turned an excellent combine into a late 1st and after the top 3 the TE position is wide open.

Chris Maier (02-27-2010 10:03:11) Gresham runs a 4.76 40 which is what most expected. Harbour sub 4.7 with a 4.68. I think he could sneak into round 4 with a good workout.

Chris Maier (02-27-2010 10:15:28) I hate to read too much into workouts but Campbell has likely moved himself into the top 10 esp. considering the Raiders are picking 8th. I still have Okung in front of him but he closed the gap on Williams, Bulaga and esp. Davis today.

hilton (02-27-2010 10:17:13) okung running 5.17 with 38 bench reps is impressive is he still the first tackle taken off the board.

Chris Maier (02-27-2010 10:18:35) Most definitely. Okung is not getting nearly the buzz that he deserves. He is a better prospect than any of last year's tackles. I think the Lions should take take him at #2 and if not he falls no further than Washington or Kansas City. Any tackle selected over Okung is a reach.

Dan Wernery (02-27-2010 10:21:50) Okung may not get by Tampa. If McCoy and Suh are off the board, Tampa could take Okung. Left tackle is the only weakness on their offensive line.

Chris Maier (02-27-2010 10:22:43) Dickerson's 40 was stellar but my biggest tight end surprise is Dennis Pitta running a 4.63. He is a tremendous receiver with a high football IQ and answering the speed question could make him a 2nd rounder.

Dan Wernery (02-27-2010 10:28:41) If you look at Mark Sanchez and Matt Ryan the last two years and their productivitty as rookies. They not only had a solid O-Line they had a solid TE.

Chris Maier (02-27-2010 10:33:16) I've gone back to watch some of the group linemen drills and John Jerry has been extremely impressive. Surprisingly good footwork.

Dan Wernery (02-27-2010 10:35:12) Jerry experience at tackle will help him at guard in the NFL. Sometimes linmen the size of Jerry who don't play tackle in college struggle in pass protection.

Chris Maier (02-27-2010 10:37:07) Trent Williams has done a tremendous job answering questions about his athleticism today. I am still skeptical of playing him at left tackle but he has helped himself today. Fundamentally sound in drills too.

Dan Wernery (02-27-2010 10:39:01) Trent Williams will benefit from SF, Pitt, GB, SD among others with a gaping hole at RT

Dan Wernery (02-27-2010 10:40:01) The Ravens had the right mindset with Michael Oher last year. They considered him a RT only prospect and he thrived. He only played the left side when Gaither was injured.

Dan Wernery (02-27-2010 10:41:03) I haven't had a chance to watch all of the combine, but in my opinion Gresham is clearly the #1 prospect at TE

Dan Wernery (02-27-2010 10:43:01) Tony Schefler went from a 7th pick to a 2nd pick in this drill in 2006.

Chris Maier (02-27-2010 10:45:35) Any concerns Gresham had of not being the top tight end were answered when he worked out and Gronkowski and Hernandez did not (esp. Hernandez)

Chris Maier (02-27-2010 10:47:08) Jimmy Graham looks very smooth catching passes in the gauntlet. A natural pass catcher.

Chris Maier (02-27-2010 10:48:47) Rodger Saffold 9'5 broad jump. He is having a huge day today in both the tests and the drills. With the number of team's needing tackles he could have solidified a 2nd round grade and could sneak into round 1 if there is an early run at the position.

Dan Wernery (02-27-2010 10:51:59) He could be a target of Det, Wsh or KCif they decide to go another position in round 1.

Chris Maier (02-27-2010 10:59:22) I like Tony Moeaki, decent athlete, good hands, and solid blocker. He's having a nice all-around workout today.

Chris Maier (02-27-2010 11:02:03) For as nice a workout as Dickerson is having it is very hard to figure out where he will play. He does not look too small for a tight end (20 lbs less than the other TEs) and does not have the quick twitch of a receiver.

Chris Maier (02-27-2010 11:21:47) It would not surprise me if a tight end did not get drafted in the first round. The reason is the injuries to Gronkowski and Gresham drop them and Hernandez is undersized. Then you look at the depth at the position and the tight ends just don't appear to have early value.

Chris Maier (02-27-2010 11:24:06) The unfair bashing of LeFevour's decision to not workout. He played in the Senior Bowl considering the weaknesses of the other players he is battling for the #3 quarterback spot he has more to lose than gain at this point in my opinion.

Dan Wernery (02-28-2010 08:11:25) Tim Tebow is nothing more than a 4th or 5th round pick. If you're an NFL GM you cannot spend a pick in the first three rounds on a QB with this many question marks.

Dan Wernery (02-28-2010 08:14:02) When you look at the WR position, its Dez Bryant and everyone else. Golden Tate and Arrelious Benn are the only other first round wideouts.

Dan Wernery (02-28-2010 08:16:10) It doesn't help this year's class that Anquan Bolden and Brandon Marshall are available for a first round pick.

Dan Wernery (02-28-2010 08:24:19) At some point the NFL will have to incorporate more of the spread offense into their playbook. Jimmy Clausen is the only quarterback in this year's class to run a pro style offense in college.

Dan Wernery (02-28-2010 08:36:20) At the Senior Bowl Dan Lefevour clearly established himself as the #3 QB. On my board I have him rated #2. Sam Bradford has a strong arm but appears to be a system QB

Dan Wernery (02-28-2010 08:39:35) Trindon Holliday and Brandon Banks ran 40 times in the 4.3's. Both guys are sub 5-9 in height and have the intangbles to be tremendous kick and punt returners.

Dan Wernery (02-28-2010 08:44:54) Brandon Lafell will need to run a better 40 time than 4.6 to move into round 1. I still like Lafell as a possession receiver. Excellent route runner.

Dan Wernery (02-28-2010 08:56:09) Taylor Price ran a 4.43 40 time. Price had mixed reviews at the Senior Bowl. Price could go as high as round 2 or as low as round 5.

Dan Wernery (02-28-2010 09:29:57) I was shocked Freddie Barnes from Bowling Green was not invited. He may be a system receiver, but if you cat 124 passes in a season, you at least deserve an extended look by the scouts.

Dan Wernery (02-28-2010 09:57:07) Emmaneul Sanders from SMU has a lot of Davone Bess qualities. Sanders benefited from the June Jones run and shoot offense.

Dan Wernery (02-28-2010 09:59:59) Last year the Raiders went with a Maryland-Ohio 1st and 2nd round combo with Heyward-Bey and Michael Mitchell. They could repeat this year with Bruce Campbell and Taylor Price.

Dan Wernery (02-28-2010 10:06:27) I agree with the broadcast team, outside of Ryan Matthews and CJ Spiller there are a lot of situational running backs in this draft.

Dan Wernery (02-28-2010 10:24:56) SD is known for being uncoventional on draft day, but I don't see them trading up. The key for SD is not to reach on a RB. If Spiller and Mathews are off the board, I see them trading down into round 2.

Dan Wernery (02-28-2010 10:48:01) Mathews is a first round pick for sure. He will not get by San Diego. Dwyer is a complimentary power back. A team like Philly or Houston who lost games because of short yardage plays could take a flier on Dwyer in round 2. The GA Tech offense will impact his stock.

Rick (02-28-2010 10:52:18) What about McCluster?

Dan Wernery (02-28-2010 10:53:49) McCluster would be an ideal fit in SD. He is versatile and can make people miss in the open field. Looking at the teams draftin late in round 1, San Diego is the only place I see McCluster landing.

Dan Wernery (02-28-2010 10:56:14) I've said many times if Okung is off the board, the Skins will consider drafting a QB and using draft picks in 2011 to get a QB. They will supposedly tender Jason Campbell a 1 year deal, but I don't expect this to stop Washington from drafting Clausen. I can't see Mike Shanahan picking Bradford.

Chris Maier (03-01-2010 07:09:47) Gerald McCoy who has drawn comparisons to Tommie Harris was disappointing in the 40 going 4.96 and 5.14 unofficial.

Chris Maier (03-01-2010 07:10:57) McCoy will be compared to N.Suh all day long and after losing in the bench (23 vs. 32 for Suh), McCoy did not show the explosiveness expected in the 40

Chris Maier (03-01-2010 07:46:07) Linval Joseph had some balance issues in the first bag drill but is looking like a good athlete for his size. 5.09 40 for a nose tackle prospect.

Chris Maier (03-01-2010 09:07:39) Vince Oghobaase has to be my most disappointing 40 of the day. I expect Terrence Cody to run 5.4 but an athletic DT like Oghobaase should have been much faster.

Chris Maier (03-01-2010 09:13:49) Jeff Owens is a guy to watch in the drills today. Led the D-Lineman in the bench press and a solid 4.97 40 and is showing why he was considered a day one or two pick before injuring his knee in 2008.

Ricky Sapp and Lindsay Witten looked good but Derrick Morgan and Jason Pierre Paul looked a little uncomfortable. I am in the minority but i think Pierre Paul is a better 4-3 DE than rush linebacker. He needs to play with the ball in front of him.

Chris Maier (03-01-2010 10:44:10) If you are not going to workout it is always best to say you tweaked your hamstring than say you are going to wait until your pro day. It is amazing how many guys have strained hamstrings despite working out everyday for nearly 2 months to prepare.

Chris Maier (03-01-2010 10:49:27) Overall as much as it is a defensive draft, the linebacker class is not a deep group. The dropoff in talent is fast and steep so if you want one you need to take one early even if it feels like a reach.

Chris Maier (03-01-2010 11:05:16) AJ Edds with a solid 4.67. He is a great coverage linebacker who should be a nice value in round 3 or 4. Very underrated.

Chris Maier (03-01-2010 11:07:42) Norwood ran better than expected with a 4.67. Questionable athleticism but he is versatile and has great first round instincts.

Doug Lancy (03-02-2010 07:51:54) Haden is still the best corner in the class. He may no longer fall in the top 10, but won't fall past the first half of round 1. And a good pro-day workout could get him back in the top 10. Rumor has it he was a little heavy at the combine (maybe bulked up too much).

Doug Lancy (03-02-2010 08:08:46) I don't have their unofficial times yet, which could make a big difference, but C Chancellor has probably moved up to a late 3rd to early 4th on his drills. C Butler however hasn't looked as good in the drills and is still a 5-6th rounder.

Doug Lancy (03-02-2010 08:29:25) Eric Berry was so solid, that teams will be hard pressed to pass on him... with any pick. He is definitely in competition for the top 5 picks, although being a safety probably prevents him from going #1 or #2 overall.
